my favorite cycling books and not just because of the content but also as an object. It's a softcover with an unusual, 8 1/4x5 3/4 size and nice, thick stock, printed in Air Max 95 Red White Blue limited editions.
Krabbe contributed an original quote for the cover: "Cycling was mythical, but it survived its visibility. In 'Velo,' it becomes a visible myth." I Air Max Men Style
With other short excerpts from Krabbe, and also from Seamus Heaney, Samuel Beckett, Paul Kimmage, Kraftwerk, and the composer Sir Harrison Birtwhistle (I had to wiki him to know that), this one of Air Max 95 Black Neon Green
Rider. That passage also appears in a remarkable new photo book, Velo, put together by Andrew G. Smith and based on a gallery showing of his work. Smith, as far as I can tell, took photographs of broadcasts of pro racing, and the images are blurry, disjointed, color streaked, disorienting and extremely evocative of just what it is to race. Somehow, the concept and execution of Smith's work powerfully, and accurately, communicate the emotions and sensations of being in a race.
That's Tim Krabbe there, not me, with just one of the many truths in his classic book, The Nike Air Max 95 Ultra Jacquard Cream
When the pair of German six day race partners went off the front with somewhere around twelve laps to go and the team up here from Mexico decided to chase, the entire crit went single file. I kept thinking I had to be last. I would snap a look backward and I couldn't even see the end. I would crane my head out to peer forward and I couldn't see the beginning. Once somebody shouted we doing 37. Then nobody talked for a long time. There was a wheel in front of me. Then it wasn't in front of me. Another wheel was. That kept on. We kept on. The faster a lap was, the longer it seemed to take. I knew that could not be correct. But I also knew it was accurate.

don't really understand that but I believe it. If you do, too, if you're the kind of rider who knows that fast laps last longer than slow laps, you should check out Velo.
