"They are really, really good," Bricker said. "They have a lot of charisma as a band, as well."
can't do it. We are trying to take our music to the place we are meant to go."
Naftaly found his bandmates by playing music with them for years and letting them grow into the blues. This is true of Eleanor Tsaig, the vocalist who writes the band's songs along with Naftaly.
"The transformation in the last three years is something else," he said. "She's developed her own style. Nike Air Max 95 No Sew
"We're not alone here," he said. "This really is a story of blues people trying to negotiate with our government and your government. It's a lot less sexier that way, but that's our story."
Al Bricker, who helped bring Naftaly to the Moxi and is one of the longtime organizers of the Greeley Blues Jam, said the guitarist is being modest. He first saw Naftaly at last year's International Blues Competition in Memphis and thought his band was the "hot thing," even if the band didn't make the finals. The band had some success in Israel, too, being named the country's top blues act this year in a competition.
Israel's blues scene, after all, isn't what it is in America. Blues musicians play gigs for free in Israel, and they were "almost impossible" to find for his band, Naftaly said.

Despite the dearth of the blues in his country, Naftaly fell in love when his father played jazz and blues records around the house. Naftaly didn't know any other music existed, in fact, until he was a teenager. His father played the guitar but not professionally and bought Naftaly his first when he was 7. Now he loves the classics, such as Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy. He considers Eric Clapton almost too new for his tastes. Yet his band isn't content to copy the blues masters.
Ori Naftaly misses Israel. It's his home. But his love for the blues, and his desire to play them, meant he had to leave. now, and he'll be "hanging out for a year or two," with only brief visits back home. The Ori Naftaly Band will play in downtown Greeley's Moxi Theater on Friday for an early all ages evening show as a fundraiser for the Blue Star Connection, an organization that works to get instruments into the hands of seriously ill or dying kids.
"At the age of 25 I'm still trying to understand my music," he said. "Most people in blues try to look up to several musicians and be as good as them, but we are not. We need more people trying to find the new path for the blues.
